Namo Namaha friends. If you remember, last year I created a Top 5 series I want to read in 2020, post. Suffice to say that plan was a royal failure. I’ll get to that in a minute. But, before that, let’s begin with a review of how I did with my series reading plans. Shall we?
As you very well know, every year the publishing industry churns out a plethora of new and exciting series to read. And as readers, we are spoilt for choices. Be it backlist or new titles. Every series is an undeniable temptation beckoning to us poor readers.
So, last year I listed down the five series that I was most excited to start. But, I am shocked and surprised to learn that I didn’t even begin a single book from any of the series on that list. I have the books in my TBR (To Be Read) but I couldn’t get around to reading any of them. Anybody else as surprised as me?
Now, one of the reasons I can think of for such a dismal performance (apart from the obvious reasons of Covid 19, general gloominess, etc.) is that I had more convenient or more interesting choices to choose from. I traded off the planned ones for many unplanned ones. Obviously, I don’t regret that!
Now, let’s come to the crux of the matter. If I didn’t read any of the planned series, what did I read? Ah! This is where it gets interesting. Who likes stats, raise your hands?
This year, I started 26 new series, completed a series, and continued with one other series that I had already started last year!
In short, instead of the five planned series, I started with 26 unplanned ones. Is that an improvement or what? 😀

Now, I’ll be putting up another post on my reading plans for 2021. So watch out for that. But for now, based on the reading I did in 2020 and the series I am yet to complete, I have decided to either continue or discontinue with the series.
Discontinue, means, I am no longer interested in picking up any of the current or future books from the series.
Maybe in future, means I might pick it up based on the reviews and my interest levels in the said books as time progresses. In short, I am on the fence with these books and I need more data to decide on them.

As you can see, I completed two series in 2020, they are:
Sl Num | Series Name | Author Name |
---|---|---|
1 | The Lunar Chronicles | Marissa Meyer |
2 | The Infernel Devices | Cassandra Clare |
I am on the fence with respect to the following seven series, if you think I absolutely must continue with any of them, let me know.
Sl Num | Series Name | Author Name |
---|---|---|
1 | A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder | Holly Jackson |
2 | Keeper of the Lost Cities | Shannon Messenger |
3 | The Blessed Chronicles | R.J.Kaldanis |
4 | Blood Heir | Amelie Wen Zhao |
5 | A Court of Thorns & Roses | Sarah. J. Mass |
6 | The Burning | Evan Winter |
7 | Legend | Marie Lu |
I am discontinuing the following series. I have read one or more books in each of these series. Either am disinterested in continuing with the series or they are not at all a priority in my reading journey.
Sl. Num | Series Name | Author Name |
---|---|---|
1 | The Dresden files | Jim Butcher |
2 | Wraith Kings | Grace Draven |
3 | The Murderbot Diaries | Martha Wells |
4 | Howl’s Moving Castle | Diana Wynne Jones |
5 | Joona Linna Series | Lars Kepler |
6 | Eddie Flynn | Steve Cavanagh |
7 | Royals | Rachel Hawkins |
8 | The Reckoners | Brandon Sanderson |
9 | The Night | Elie Wiesel |
10 | Simon Snow | Rainbow Rowell |
11 | This Mortal Coil | Emily Suvada |
12 | His Dark Materials | Philip Pullman |
Now, I’ll be actively moving forward with the following series. Whether I’ll read them in 2021 or sometime in the near future is yet to be seen. Obviously, there are numerous other series that I haven’t yet laid my eyes on and am quite eager to. But, rest assured these are definitely on my priority list.
Author Name | Series Name | Author Name |
---|---|---|
1 | Shadow of the Fox | Julie Kagawa |
2 | Truly Devious | Maureen Johnson |
3 | Nevermoor | Jessica Townsend |
4 | The Brown Sisters | Talia Hibbert |
5 | Southern Reach | Jeff Vandermeer |
6 | Cassidy Blake | V.E.Schwab |
7 | The Shattered Sea | Joe Abercrombie |
So folks that’s the end of my 2020 Book Series review. All in all, I think it wasn’t half as bad, right? What do you think? What kind of a reading year did you have? I would love to know.
Do reach out to me via my SM channels @twitter, @instagram, or @goodreads if you would like to chat about your bookish goals with me. I would be more than glad to have a bookish conversation going.
That’s all from my end. Stay safe and blessed. Om Shanti.
